Buxton Court Closure!
High Peak residents have until Thursday (8th October) to comment on plans to shut the magistrates court in Buxton!
If approved, the proposals will see hearings move to Chesterfield and those needing to attend court, for whatever reason, facing a journey of almost an hour by car and two hours or more by public transport.
Among those who have raised concern about the move include High Peak MP Andrew Bingham, and Derbyshire County Council.
Kirsten Collings, a Partner here at Bakers, said: "The move goes against the principle of local justice and for many the transport costs will prevent them attending.
I fear the costs involved in getting the police to execute warrants and then take people to court in custody will far outweigh the small savings made by closing the court in Buxton."
The consultation is on the department of justice website found here.
